Our Environmental Policy

Our Environmental Policy

Here at Duncrub Holidays, we have joined the Green Business Tourism Scheme and are delighted to have gained a Silver award at our first attempt, and will work towards a Gold award at our re-inspection in 2010. When you visit next we invite you to read all about our commitment, measures we have introduced and policies in which we would like you to share.

At Duncrub Holidays we are committed to reducing the impact of our activities on the environment. Our challenge is to achieve this objective whilst retaining the character and atmosphere of the 19th century building in which our two holiday apartments are situated. The first of these apartments, The Chapel House, was constructed in 1993/4 and the second, The Tower House, in 1998.

The architect-designed Chapel House received a commendation from The Association for the Protection of Rural Scotland awards scheme in 1994.

In both properties we have aimed to deliver the highest standards to our visitors which means that we have always included in our thinking, practicalities such as insulation, good housekeeping, visual impact in the countryside and landscaping. We see environmental commitment as part of the ongoing development of our 32-year old tourism business. We understand that improved environmental performance enhances business development and we aim for continuous improvement by preventing pollution, increasing visitor and supplier awareness, monitoring our energy consumption and using eco-friendly products.

PRODUCTS We buy and promote the use of local goods and services wherever possible, only looking further afield when a local product or service is not available.

WASTE We collect waste on a weekly basis and provide recycling facilities onsite. Guests are given information on our re-cycling services, and local re-cycling point in our information files.

ENERGY We use low energy bulb wherever possible, and timed sensor exterior lighting as well as time clocks and thermostats.

WATER The mains water supply is metered and its usage monitored. Water saving devices are used wherever possible.

TIMBER We use waste timber for burning ourselves for free supply and for a member of our family, excess being made available to others.

ENVIRONMENT We are committed to managing existing landscape and planting trees, shrubs and bulbs that are appropriate to the area in order to encourage wildlife and enhance the scenery.

LITTER Guests and local people enjoy our local walks and we are constantly vigilant about removal of any litter. We encourage awareness of The Country Code.
